Easter brought 40 degree weather. We took Nolan on our last bird hunt of the year. The snow is disappearing from the tundra and it is very hard to travel. There are large puddles of ice on the rivers and the lakes are just beginning to break up. We also saw our first geese. Several Flocks of White Fronts. Spring is on its way.

This weekend’s project was getting the USFWS Beaver airplane back to Bethel Safely. The engine blew up when the pilot was trying to deliver over 1,000 lbs of fuel and supplies to a bird research station on the coast. The pilot executed a perfect emergency landing saving the plane, sans engine, and gear. The plane was transported from the coast back to Bethel by helicopter. The troopers picked up the two USFWS staff waiting for a ride back to Bethel at the from the camp. The Beaver is scheduled to get a new engine and be back in the air in days! What a great team at YK Delta Refuge.
