Bear Trap Creek Watershed

Beartrap Creek flows from southwest of Ashland northeast into the Kakagon Sloughs. The stream has supported a warm water forage fishery with the occasional northern pike. The river drains lands that once were primarily agricultural.  After entering the Bad River Indian Reservation, the creek drains vast lowland and wetlands areas.

The Institute for Environmental Studies has identified Beartrap Creek as the primary contributor of sediment into the sloughs. This stream is identified by the Lake Superior Binational Program as important Lake Superior habitat as part of the Kakagon/Bad River Sloughs, and for its exceptional fishery habitat.

Currently, BRWA does not have any water quality sampling sites on Beartrap Creek. If you are interested in helping us collect some data about this river, contact Valerie Damstra at 682-2669.
