The Bad River watershed is a freshwater system that flows into Lake Superior off the shores of Northern Wisconsin. The Bad River Watershed Association was founded in August, 2002. The mission of the BRWA is to promote the healthy interconnection between the human and natural communities of the watershed by involving all citizens in maintaining the integrity of the watershed for future generations. Current programs include a monthly water quality monitoring program to collect baseline data and a Culvert Assessment and Remediation Project. The annual budget is about $100,000, of which about 85% is grant funding and the remainder local individual and group donations. BRWA is a volunteer driven organization with one full time and two part time staff people. While state, local and federal agencies have been helpful, the group is a citizen initiative.
